A Solo Art Trip To Malaysia

It's been a while since the last time I did a solo trip. So I was so excited to do this trip to Kuala Lumpur and Serawak because think travelling alone has its own benefits. I can be completely selfish and decide where to go without considering worrying if the others. haha

So this time I decided for myself, that I am going to do a trip that will visit art galleries, museums, and exhibitions.

1. DI MANA YOUNG? An Art Exhibition

I feel so lucky to be able to visit this "Di Mana Young?" exhibition at The National Visual Arts Gallery Malaysia. "Di Mana Young?" (which was a word play from "Di Mana Sayang?" Or "Where Are You Darling?"), is showing devotion to the women artist who advocate to challenge and interrogate the meaning of values from the social institution.
I am still amazed by these artists and their works. Women and their views have always been the biggest inspiration of my works.

2. Islamic Art Museum Malaysia

I have always wanted to visit this museum since Islam is the biggest religion in my country, Indonesia and Malaysia. I believe that Islamic culture has influenced art works around the world.
The museum is the largest museum of Islamic arts in South East Asia with more than seven thousands artifacts from the Islamic world. has 12 main galleries which is classified according to the types of artefacts spread over level 3 and 4. Level 3 of the museum hosts the Quran and Manuscripts Gallery, the Islamic Architecture Gallery, the India Gallery, the Chinese Gallery, the Ancient Malay World Gallery.

3. Rain Forest Fringe Festival

Art exploring continues! I went to this festival called The Rainforest Fringe in the different part of Malaysia, Serawak.
The inaugural Rainforest Fringe Festival (RFF) is a 10 days spectacle of the best that Sarawak has to offer in terms of art, craft, music, fashion, food, film, and photography.
A prelude to the Rainforest World Music Festival, RFF aims to reposition Sarawak as the more than an adventure destination, but a cultural one abundant with diverse potential.

Overall, it was a very fun experience. Again, the benefit of travelling alone is that I get to decide my own itinerary and when to stop and even if I want to change the plan. A little tip: if art is your interest, you definitely need to research some art destinations and events before you travel.

Salam.
